Kellogg Guide to Practical Leadership 2007

Introduction

Dean Dipak C. Jain

I am delighted to provide an introduction for the 2007 Kellogg Guide to Practical Leadership. This collection of articles from Kellogg faculty and practitioners offers you practical insights about key management issues by drawing on well-established business fundamentals, cutting-edge academic research, and lessons learned during distinguished business careers.

This past year, the Kellogg School of Management attracted several outstanding leaders in business including Sam Zell, A.G. Lafley, Jamie Dimon and Carly Fiorina, to name a few. They provided valuable real-world knowledge to our students, the young men and women who will set the standards for leadership in the future. This guide is a supplement to what you - the graduating students and alumni - have learned during your time at Kellogg. Through insightful articles written from a practical perspective, business leaders (including Kellogg alumni) and faculty members guide you through the elements of effective leadership, leadership challenges, essential leadership skills, and potential future leadership opportunities and trends.

The 2007 Kellogg Guide to Practical Leadership is made possible through the dedicated work of Tarun Arora and Rashmi Singhal (Class of 2007), and Trevor Henry and Minit Gupta (Class of 2008). Their efforts demonstrate the teamwork and leadership skills that contribute to the Kellogg School's global reputation.

The 2007 Kellogg Guide to Practical Leadership is an important resource in addressing critical leadership issues, and it is one indication of how the Kellogg School combines rigor and relevance in our approach to management education.
