The 2005-2006 Alumni Awards

Douglas M. Cook '98
Kellogg Schaffner Award Recipient

Douglas M. Cook '98 is owner and president of Feldco, the Chicago area’s largest window, siding and door company. Since acquiring the company in October 2000, Feldco has grown more than 300 percent with revenues in excess of $25 million. Previously, Mr. Cook spent some 12 years in media sales, as account executive for Katz Media Corporation and Cox Broadcasting.

In 1995, Mr. Cook began attending The Managers’ Program at the Kellogg School of Management, initially intending to transfer his marketing skills into the consumer products industry. While at Kellogg he became interested in entrepreneurship, and following graduation set out to acquire a company in the Chicago area. After a search of over two years in which he examined more than 120 companies, visited 60 and made offers on four, he was successful in acquiring Feldco, then a 25-year-old firm that had been providing window products to Chicagoland homeowners since the mid-1970s. Without altering the product line, Mr. Cook reinvigorated the company’s culture bringing a fresh approach to marketing and management, and making Feldco one of the most visible and recognized area firms.

Selected as the recipient of the 2004 Kellogg Alumni Rising Entrepreneur Award, Mr. Cook has been active in counseling Kellogg students and alumni, particularly in early-stage entrepreneurial activities. He is an active board member of the Larry and Carol Levy Institute for Entrepreneurial Practice at the Kellogg School and has been a guest lecturer in entrepreneurial finance, hosted an independent study course, and hired numerous Kellogg students as summer interns. Feldco has now taken on a three-year sponsorship of the Kellogg Alumni Entrepreneur Conference beginning in 2005. Among other interests, Mr. Cook is also active in the Young Presidents Organization, and is a board member of the Better Business Bureau of Northern Illinois. In addition to his Kellogg degree, Mr. Cook holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Illinois.

Mr. Cook’s sister, Sarah, is a Kellogg alumna, and their father, Stanton Cook, is an alumnus of Northwestern University. Mr. Cook’s maternal grandmother, Florence Will Moore, was a long-time staff member at the Kellogg School. In 1988 she was memorialized by friends with the establishment of The Florence Will Moore Scholarship at Kellogg.
